Gregory G. Hong

ALLIRA studio is led by Founder and Principal Gregory G. Hong. He is a licensed Architect in California and Florida among several other States in the U.S. With 30 years of experience in the AEC industry, he takes on a variety of roles as a Project Designer, Construction Manager, Owner’s Rep and Managing Partner. He has held key positions in the past for prominent Architecture and Interior Design firms and with Developers.
Greg has managed a variety of mixed-use projects in urban settings. He was Project Manager for large-scale mixed-use developments such as Metropolis and NoHo West while at Gensler and Altoon Partners. Prior to that, he held his own practice, Nexus Design Group, in South Florida for ten years and was Director of Architecture for Menin Development where he managed the entitlement and full design process for Downtown at the Gardens, a luxury outdoor destination shopping center.
Greg’s years of diverse experience spans international borders. He has spent time at renowned Japanese architect Shin Takamatsu’s firm and worked on Haesong Plaza, a mixed-use high rise complex in Incheon, South Korea. Greg is first and foremost a listener, but also a demanding collaborator and creative problem solver. He is a team builder and great mentor to young professionals.
Greg has a Bachelor of Engineering degree from University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Architecture degree from University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, and pursued a PhD in Environment-Behavior Studies at University of Wisconsin, where he enjoyed teaching design studio, architectural theory, and construction & anatomy of buildings courses.
Born in Sydney (hence the middle name Gunhoe, meaning ‘Made in Australia’) and having grown up internationally in Seoul, Montreal, Tokyo, and major metropolitan U.S. cities, Greg is particularly fond of clean modern aesthetics. He is a foodie and enjoys traveling both domestically and abroad. He is fluent in Korean & Japanese; loves to play basketball; enjoys prog/rock from the 60’s & 70’s; and has two sons, who are avid hockey turned pickleball players working in Florida & Utah.
